We have been working with the Township for many years regarding how to expand and improve their police department. The original building was built in the early 1970's and the police department had outgrown their spaces many years ago. A number of different proposals were reviewed and the final direction was to provide a two-story addition on the rear of the existing one-story police department to maximize the amount of usable space in the most economic manner possible. It was also configured in a way that would allow for future expansion if needed.

Besides improvements to a number of specific department functional areas, this new addition provided much needed new locker room and bathroom facilities. Unlike in the past, there are now facilities for both male and female personnel. Accessibility was also in mind with the addition making sure that all areas meet the current accessibility codes, and providing an elevator to service the two levels.

There is also a new fully-functional sallyport that replaces an older small one that was not viable. This connects directly to the intake area to streamline the processing of detainees. To keep the construction costs down, the final design primarily used masonry and wood construction materials and techniques. Special attention was paid in various areas as required for security. The construction was able to be phased to allow the addition to be built and occupied, and then permit the various internal renovations to the existing department areas to be focused upon.
